Hot Tubs Reduce Male Fertility - 09/19/2007
For years, doctors have speculated that wet heat from hot baths and whirl pool tubs might reduce fertility in men. For all the men, who were trying to conceive and took their doctor’s speculation into consideration did good. A recent study conducted by a team of urologists at the University of California, San Francisco confirmed the link that hot tubs hurt male fertility. The study looked at the extent of damage heat had on a group of men who spent more than 30 minutes a week, in a hot tub or hot bath. Researchers found that all the men displayed signs of infertility with lower sperm counts and motility. But luckily, these symptoms of infertility were easily recersed in men who avoided or cut down their exposure to wet heat. In fact, researchers found that half of the men who did just this showed “a mean increase in total motile sperm counts of 491 percent after three to six months.” Researchers also believe that smoking may have been a reason why the other half of the men did not experience such an improvement in their sperm production after avoiding hot tubs.
