Rise in STDs Leads to Infertility - 07/21/2007
New data from the Health Protection Agency has revealed that the number of STD cases in the UK including Chlamydia, gonorrhoea, herpes, syphilis and genital warts has risen dramatically in the past few years. According to recent figures, cases of Chlamydia in men has risen by 86% and 61% in women from Lancashire between 2002 and 2006. Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease that often shows no symptoms but can lead to infertility. Chlamydia, which often goes untreated, can also lead to pelvic inflammatory disease and ectopic pregnancy in women. Herpes has risen from 81 to 144 cases in men, and from 128 to 221 cases in women. Genital warts has increased from 701 to 842 in men, and has risen from 503 to 710 in women.
